Blue & Gold Banquet

Blue & Gold Banquet

The Blue & Gold Banquet is Cub Scouting’s birthday celebration. Scouting America was founded in February, so packs across the country hold a celebration each February to mark the anniversary, recognize their scouts’ progress, and bring families together for a meal.

Pack 12 holds our Blue & Gold Banquet every February. The exact date appears on our calendar.

What to expect

Blue & Gold is a family event. Bring everyone — siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles. It’s a celebration of the pack and a chance for extended family to see what scouting has been about all year.

A typical Blue & Gold evening includes:

  • A meal together. Sometimes potluck, sometimes catered, sometimes pizza — varies year to year.
  • A formal opening ceremony with the colors and the Scout Oath
  • Recognition of advancement. Scouts who’ve earned ranks, adventures, or special awards during the year are recognized in front of the pack.
  • The Crossover Ceremony. Arrow of Light scouts officially cross over to Scouts BSA, often joined by representatives from local troops.
  • Cake. It’s a birthday party.

The dress code

Scouts wear their Class A uniform — the full official uniform shirt with all patches. Family members are encouraged to dress nicely, but there’s no strict dress code. Comfortable and respectful is the standard.

RSVPs and food

We typically need an RSVP and a headcount in advance so we can plan food. Watch for the sign-up email a few weeks ahead of the event, or check the calendar.

If the year’s banquet is potluck-style, we’ll send out a sign-up so families can claim a dish to bring. If it’s catered, we’ll collect a small per-person fee to cover the cost.

Why we do this

Blue & Gold matters because it’s the moment when the year’s work becomes visible. Parents see their scout receive a rank in front of the whole pack. Younger scouts see what’s ahead of them. Older scouts get recognized for the leadership they’ve shown. And the Crossover Ceremony sends our oldest scouts off to Scouts BSA the right way — with the whole pack cheering for them.

It’s our favorite night of the year.
