Wolves are second graders. The Wolf program is where many scouts really hit their stride — they’re old enough to handle longer adventures, they’ve got a year of scouting under their belt, and they’re starting to take pride in earning ranks and badges.

What Wolves do

Wolves work on:

  • Six required adventures to earn the Wolf rank
  • A wide selection of elective adventures spanning outdoor skills, STEM, citizenship, fitness, and creative arts
  • Pack events: Pinewood Derby, Rain Gutter Regatta, Blue & Gold, campouts, hikes, and service projects

Wolves get their first taste of real outdoor skills — knot tying, fire safety, basic first aid, observing nature, hiking with intent.

How Wolf dens work

Wolf dens meet twice a month, typically for about an hour. Parents are still expected to attend (especially for outdoor activities), but scouts are starting to do more on their own within the meeting.

What you need

Wolves wear the same Cub Scout uniform as Tigers, with a few changes:

  • Cub Scout uniform shirt
  • Wolf neckerchief (yellow) and slide — replaces the Tiger orange
  • Wolf rank patch (earned and added during the year)
  • Wolf handbook

If your scout was a Tiger, the only purchases for the new year are the new neckerchief, slide, and handbook. The rest of the uniform carries over.

What’s next

Wolves move up to Bears in 3rd grade. Bears do harder, more challenging adventures, with more responsibility on the scout to complete them.
